BOOKWORM REVIEW: The Issue with Bad Boy Roommates by Piper Rayne

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
SPICE: πŸ”₯πŸ”₯.5

Fate sometimes has a funny way of getting lost souls to love again.

Fate certainly had plans for Brinley Kelly and Van Adler. Brinley is looking for a roommate. Her former roommate Calista (of The Problem with Second Chances fame) was moving out of their place and moving in with her boyfriend Rylan. When her roommate ad gets answered, she did not expect to be opening her door and home to Van Adler.

Van Adler is a Coast Guard diver in between enlisting and has been ordered by his commander to enjoy his life. This command brought him to Starlight and to Brinley's apartment. While the two definitely have the major attraction from the get-go, their secrets and pasts keep them from giving into Fate's manipulations.

I am really, really loving the second generation of Piper Rayne's Bailey universe. On one hand, you get fantastic love stories about this generation that you can enjoy even if you were new to this world. On the other hand, fans of Piper Rayne can enjoy the Easter eggs in these new stories as they relate to the previous generation.

Van and Brin were just amazing and so easy to relate to. I love the instant chemistry they had at their first meet, and Piper and Rayne sprinkle their magic to build the tension and want and connection that has us wanting for more. This was a slower burn than most of their reads, so there is a long wait, but it is so worth it.

Of course, half the magic is the main characters and their tale. The other half is the charismatic ensemble cast. I really enjoyed getting to know more about Savannah and Liam past their own love story. We get glimpses of Denver and Rome. Piper and Rayne also start to tease us with the next release in this series, and just from what details we get, it is going to be a doozy and I am here for it.

** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book. Thank you to Piper Rayne and Valentine PR and Literary Management for providing an ARC. **

ABOUT THE BOOK

I was only looking for a roommate…

I’m the town widow.
Not the only one, but the youngest by far.
My husband died one year after our wedding, casting me as the charity case in my small Alaskan town.

Since then, everyone—including my big family—try to keep me busy as if that will stop the haunting memories from resurfacing.

Do I know it’s time to move on? Of course, but that’s easier said than done.

Then Van Adler rides into town. His bad boy vibe complete with his motorcycle and tattoos causes my body to fill with need for the first time since my husband’s death.

To make matters worse, he’s the one who answered my ad for a roommate. Sharing the close quarters of our two-bedroom apartment means I have to set some ground rules like keeping his rippled abs covered. Soon we become friends, he’s making me dinners, and we’re binge-watching television shows all night.

The more our lives intertwine, the more I start to fall for him. Leaving me wondering, can you find the love of your life twice in one lifetime?
