We go back to Alaska with Piper Rayne, and there were zero regrets with this series kick-off.

Rylan Greene and Calista Bailey have known each other since childhood, and may have loved each other for as long. That is until something happened three years ago that had Calista exiling herself back home at Lake Starlight and Rylan keeping away as much as possible.

Unfortunately for them, their time apart is temporarily ended by their best friends' wedding. Being the best man and maid of honor meant they would spend a lot of planning time together, and it becomes a guarantee when meddling grandmothers gave them a wedding project to finish. The time spent together not only unearths suppressed feelings of attraction and love but it also brings back painful memories for both.

Angsty second-chance enemies-to-lovers is always 50/50 for me, but Piper Rayne's magic has managed to put this on the positive side of that divide. I love the mix of deep-seated angst, flirty banter, and comedic moments, and because this had great pacing and enough small details to get us to understand Rylan and Calista's history, this read was quite enjoyable.

The chemistry between the two does fluctuate between hot and cold, and I suspect this was intentional given their long and rocky history. As a fan of spicy moments, I am grateful that Piper Rayne gives us flashbacks of Ry and Calista's intimate history to tide us over while delivering a sizzling slow burn in present time.

I am always a fan of the Greene and Bailey Family series, so it was great to see some of them, especially those quirky grandmothers, in this read. Piper Rayne does provide enough context to let you know who's who if you are new to their book universe.

The little preview to the next book in the release was definitely enough to whet my desire to read it. One month and a few days seem like an eternity, though, for June 27.
