BOOKWORM REVIEW: Carnal Urges by J.T. Geissenger

This series is becoming an all-time favorite, and I am not mad about it.

Carnal Urges picks up where Queens and Monsters Book 1 leaves off: Sloane Keller has been taken by the Irish mob, and she has to deal with their second-in-command, the broody Declan O'Donnell. Declan wants to know what Sloane knows about her best friend's boyfriend -- Kazimir "Kage" Portnov -- who has taken over the Russian mafia. But Sloane proves to be more of a challenge than Declan anticipated.

Would this put Sloane in serious danger, or would Declan succumb to the charm that Sloane brags about?

I know that these books usually center around the big broody mafia man and their character arc, and while Declan checks off my wish list for the perfect book boyfriend, I was thrilled that Sloane stole the show. She is charismatic, wholesome, and fierce, and while the rest of us mortals would have been shaking in our boots after getting kidnapped by the Irish mob, this goddess showed no fear and, one by one, won the hearts of her captors, including the Big, Bad, and Broody one.

And their chemistry! From the first chapter to the epilogue, their connection went from a hot simmer to boiling over to a serious wildfire. Sloane's thing against boyfriends is that they bored her easily, but Declan proves that his innovative mind does not only extend to his prowess in asserting power over his own and other mobs but also in the bedroom. ::waggles eyebrows ::

Being in the underworld is a tangled web, indeed, and this book takes us on a roller-coaster journey through those tangles.  This read can definitely stand alone, but why deprive yourself of the full Queens and Monsters experience? This does end in a cliffhanger that will have your jaw dropping to the floor, so make sure to catch it when it does. While my heart is not quite ready to move on from Sloane and Declan, my mind is already reaching for Book Three.
