BOOKWORM REVIEW: The Obsession by Nikki Sloane

Who would you prefer to be with? Someone who adores you for who you really are but is unwilling to give himself to you wholeheartedly, or someone who would worship you..well, their idea of the perfect you?

This is the dilemma we face in the second book of the Filthy Rich American series.

Marist is now confined to the Hale home where she seems to be the rope in the tug-of-war between Macalister and Royce. Yup, our girl got herself stuck in a love triangle between father and son. 😲

But this love triangle is not as straightforward as you might think. Royce is distracted with his own plans and secrets, and does not seem to realize that Marist could be an important ally. I get that his end game is his freedom to live his life and be with Marist without any stipulations from dear old dad, but he's clearly being outplayed and he does not quite realize that his most important weapon is right in front of him.

I love how Nikki Sloane infuses some redeeming qualities to Macalister; he actually showed some vulnerabilities and humanity at different points in this book. While he remains overbearing, controlling, and in love with his idea of who Marist should be, he clearly admires and even uses her intelligence, cunning, and determination. 

I also find myself on Team Macalister because even though they don't exactly get to running all bases so to speak, he seems to be the more giving lover. I get that it has lot to do with control, but he makes sure that Marist gets her pleasure even at his own expense. In comparison, the scenes with Royce in this book were ultimately about his release. I also find that Marist seems to be instigating a lot of their interactions unless Royce get really pissed off. 

And that ending! I am so glad book three is out because that cliffhanger ending had me screaming (in a good way). I am SO READY for you, The Deception.
