Kandi Steiner kicks off her pro hockey romance era with a reformed playboy enemies-to-lovers, and I am here for it.
Maven King has gotten the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a high-profile influencer/podcaster in the Tampa area, and she is not about to throw away her shot. Unfortunately, the road to her goal of showcasing local community service needs goes through Vince Tanev, the Tampa Ospreys' new playboy rookie, and Maven does not do rich playboys after one shattered her heart to pieces. She is keeping her eye on the prize, however, and agrees to do an all-access social media coverage of Vince.
Vince does not quite get the memo when he is immediately smitten with Maven. Trying hard to prove that he is not the same as the snooty rich kid who broke Maven's heart, he opens himself up to her and finds a lot of common ground with the no-nonsense social media manager.
This was a great start to a promising series. The chemistry between Vince and Maven paired wonderfully with a great pace and storytelling had me turning the pages. From their meet-cute all the way to the end, we get a tension that just builds and builds until Kandi Steiner delivers on the spice.
I love our main characters' journey from enemies to lovers. We get depth -- more so on Maven's side than Vince -- about her hesitations in putting her trust in a reformed playboy and his arc to redeem his reputation. They both stumble along the way, which I feel makes them more relatable.
What I love the most about Kandi Steiner's sports romances is that we actually get a healthy dose of sports along with the romance. As a sports fan, I get a similar adrenaline rush as Steiner gives us a seamless play-by-play of a game or two, carefully but cleverly baiting us with details to get us invested in the team itself.
I am loving this series already, and it has only begun. I cannot wait for the subsequent stories! When Steiner teases us with a teammate's sister forbidden romance? She might as well take my money.
