Banks' story is finally here! The Carmichael prankster brother finally gets the spotlight, and it certainly did not disappoint.
Sara's life is currently in shambles. She is jobless and homeless and relationship-less, thanks to her cheating ex. Now she has to show up at a client's gala with said ex on the attendee list. How can she prove that she did not need him in the first place?
Cue Banks Carmichael. The fun-loving brother who has been the bane of his brothers' existence in the previous books in this series has room in his apartment and has been voluntold to open his home to Sara, who happens to be the best friend of his brother's wife. They don't always get along, which makes the proposal slightly on the nutty side.
What is even more bananas is the plan to play her fiancé at the upcoming gala. As they spend more time together, they find common ground and something more.
I have waited so long for this, and Adriana Locke absolutely delivered. Banks was such a fun fixture in the previous books, stealing the spotlight in every scene. I am so glad that he stayed in character for his book but still got the love story we wanted so much for him. I love the frenemies-to-lover arc he and Sara had. It was so much fun to see them squirm against their attraction and chemistry. The tension was nicely balanced with the romance and comedy. I was certainly entertained with every page.
Well-developed ensemble casts seem to be my jam now, and the Carmichael clan is up there among my favorites. This installment can certainly be read as a standalone, but it would be absolutely remiss of me not to recommend the series. They are all so freaking adorable, especially the Carmichael parents.
It looks like Foxx is up next, and I am a stan for grumpy heroes.
