BOOKWORM REVIEW: Babymoon or Bust by Ava Hunter

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5

To those who do not jam with accidental pregnancies or babies in their romance reads, this is your warning to move on.

For those who love it or are okay with it, this is a great summer (or any season really) read for you.

Tessie Truelove has tunnel vision when it comes to her work. A successful, up-and-coming celebrity interior designer in one of the top firms, she lives for her job. Unfortunately, that success comes with the reputation of being no-nonsense, earning her the moniker of Terrible Tess. When the nickname unusually gets under her skin after a big project, she found herself drinking by her lonesome at a bar in the middle of nowhere. It just so happens that Solomon Wilder, reclusive chef and co-owner of one of the most successful bars in Alaska, was also in said bar. they hit it off and hit the sheets.

The one-night fling, however, resulted in a positive pregnancy test, leading Tess to the decision to tackle motherhood on her. Her first big maternity project: taking a much-deserved break by taking a babymoon in Mexico. Solomon inadvertently discovers that he could be a father and follows her to the beach resort. They strike a deal to discuss co-parenting arrangements for three days..and then three days turned into one week..and so forth. Along the way, Tess and Solomon learn more about each other and find mutual respect and attraction that they cannot seem to get out of their system.

I have been reading Ava Hunter's books since her debut release of the Nashville Star series. As much as I love that series, I was also excited to see what the departure from the series would be like and it did not disappoint. For all their faults, Tess and Solomon are utterly relatable as broken individuals and as a couple navigating this whole new chapter in their lives. I love the immediate connection during their meet-cute, and Hunter does a great job of building on the tension and depth in their relationship through the three acts of this novel.

The sexy moments absolutely hit, and we have the sizzling chemistry to thank for that.

What I have always loved about the Nashville series is the memorable and adorable ensemble cast, and we get that again in this read. So far, this is a standalone, but I certainly hope we get to revisit Alaska for more stories about Howler, Ash, and the rest of the crew.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Tessie Truelove has spent her entire life avoiding. . .well, true love. And why wouldn’t she? Her dog ran off, her father left to go get cigarettes and never came back, and her mother passed away years ago. Instead, Tessie, a celebrity interior designer, clings to her to-do lists and her Pantone colors and her toxic job to avoid more heartbreak.

But after too much whiskey and a wild night with a rugged stranger has her seeing two little pink lines, she vows to do motherhood all by herself. After all, it might be her one shot at true love.

Nothing will interrupt her plans. Not even Solomon Wilder—her muscled, bearded, brooding baby daddy—who stomps his way into her perfectly planned babymoon after learning about her pregnancy.

Stuck together in paradise, the two strike a deal: spend three days together to figure out how to raise their son.

Complete opposites, they have nothing in common except the bump between them. Tessie has her glamorous career in LA, and Solomon has his wildlife in Alaska. Yet as the babymoon takes a turn for the steamy and Solomon breaks through the emotional walls Tessie’s spent years guarding, she starts to wonder if she and this gruff, flannel-wearing mountain man might be meant to do more than just share a baby—they might be meant to share a heart.

MEET AVA HUNTER

Ava Hunter is a strong believer in black coffee, red wine, and the there's-only-one-bed trope. She writes contemporary romance with healthy amounts of angst where the damsels are never quite damsels, but the men they love (good, bad and rugged) are always there for them. Her first series, Nashville Star, centers on sexy country singers and their honky-tonk drama-filled lives.

Ava is married to her high school sweetheart, loves writing strong, stubborn women that only make their men fall harder, adores all things pink, and can never ever get enough of protector romance.
