BOOKWORM REVIEW: Always Sunny by Isabel Jolie

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
SPICE: πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

Sandra Turner -- Sunny to her friends -- wants a baby. She is pushing 40, and with two businesses in her small town, she does not think she has the time to find the perfect guy to build a family with. When her ex-boyfriend's younger brother finds out that she is in search of a sperm donor, he makes a proposal that seems like it was taken from her fantasies..forbidden fantasies of him.

Ian Duke has harbored a crush on Sunny, but he could never make a move because she was his brother's girlfriend. When he hears that she is searching for a donor to fulfill her wishes to build a family of her own, he immediately jumps on the opportunity to help her out and fulfill from childhood fantasies of his own.

But Ian is not the long-term type, and Sunny clearly wants happily ever after. Once Sunny's wish is granted, would these two be able to walk away?

Reverse age-gap romances are my Kryptonite, and Isabel Jolie delivered. I love the connection between Ian and Sunny. I immediately got the chemistry when they are first together in the book, and I love how Jolie infuses small details that establish the long history of their pining.

Be warned: this read is ANGSTY. We travel back and forth in the timeline, which throws the pacing off at certain points, but Jolie recovers by drawing me back into the story. With childhood friends, we expect a lot of history, but these two carry enough baggage for a 747. I enjoy their journey of addressing those together. I especially cheered for Sunny's growth as she finds her confidence and voice in her small town.

ABOUT THE BOOK

My forbidden fantasy. My older brother's ex.The star of all my teenage dreams.

Sunny. An apt name for the friend I've crushed on my entire life.

A one-sided crush. A secret I plan to take to my grave.

Until Sunny confesses her plan to pick a sperm donor.
She doesn't need to ask. As a matter of fact, she doesn't even need to leave my penthouse.

It's the perfect arrangement. Relationships aren't for me. I don't have the time to invest, given my days and many nights are spent in the operating room.

I'm not willing to do anything half-assed. It's what makes me a damn good surgeon.

But living out my lust-filled fantasies while helping a friend?

And no one has to ever know.

That's what I call a win-win.

Always Sunny is a standalone medical reverse age gap forbidden romance between Ian, the youngest Duke brother, and Sandra, or as Ian has always called her, Sunny. Always Sunny is not a part of any series, but it includes Sam Duke from Trust Me and Oliver Duke from How to Survive a Holiday Fling.
