BOOKWORM REVIEW: The Summer We Fell by Elizabeth O' Roark

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
SPICE: πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

If you like messy romance, READ THIS.

Juliet never felt like she belonged. In her small town. In her adoptive family with her boyfriend Danny and his parents. Her thoughts are the complete opposite of what she shows the people around her: a meek, obedient girl.

That all changed when Danny brought his friend Luke home.

Elizabeth O'Roark writes some of the best enemies-to-lovers, and this book is right up there. The adversarial tension that builds with Luke's arrival in town and in Juliet's orbit is pure gold. That slow and organic transition from enemies to steamy lovers is completely on point. Along the way, we get a mess that O'Roark cleverly untangles with engaging storytelling.

Reader beware: this standalone read does involve some tropes that may not be your jam. I was a bit worried about that love triangle, but again, it was so well-developed and addressed. There is some cheating (but it is not our main characters). Don't forget to check out the TWs as well.

Other than that, be prepared for a spicy messy love that spans years of longing and heartache, and just enjoy the ride.

** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book. Thank you to Elizabeth O'Roark and Valentine PR and Literary Management for providing an ARC. **

ABOUT THE BOOK

He was my boyfriend's best friend—and the bane of my existence. I wanted to hate Luke Taylor. I did hate him. I just never hated him enough.

Now, a decade later, tragedy has brought us back to the place where it all happened—my best times, and my worst.

Our lives have changed, but that pull between us is just as strong as ever.

Only this time, it's more dangerous too.
