BOOKWORM REVIEW: Coming Home For Us by Carrie Ann Ryan
SPICE: π₯π₯π₯
Sometimes the road to love is a winding, bumpy, and angsty one. Maddie and Elijah's story certainly is.
Maddie has probably been drawn to Elijah Wilder ever since he and his brothers bought the winery and resort she worked for. But it is tough when your crush is one of your bosses and he is in love with someone else.
Then tragedy strikes, forcing Elijah to shun love forever, and Maddie has been struggling with the wall he has built around his heart and the monotony of working for the winery. After all, the only thing that seems to be anchoring her there is a lost cause.
This book is set a couple of years after the third installment of the series. Elijah is reeling from the loss at the end of The Path to You. While I struggled with the loss of Joy (she was a fairly likeable character), the tension between Maddie and Elijah had spanned across the series and was always more appealing to me.
The road to their HEA is not easy. Carrie Ann Ryan weaves a nice balance of angst, grief, romance, and banter that kept me engaged throughout the bumpy ride. Since this relationship was established from the very beginning of the series, I would consider it a super-slow burn, but the wait is so worth it. Elijah, Elijah, Elijah -- who knew you had the filthiest mouth amongst your siblings?
This book can be read as a standalone, but I cannot emphasize enough the need to start from the beginning of the series to fully experience the longing and tension that is Maddie and Elijah.
East's story is next, and I live for the grumpiest Wilder's love story.
