Elle Nicoll hits it out of the park again.
The last time we met Reed Walker, he was creating some miscommunication problems between protagonists Griffin and Maria about his..um..extracurricular activities in his condo. Now he is back, running for New York City mayor, but he has a few public image issues. When his campaign manager suggests that finding a steady girlfriend might be helpful for his reputation, he recruits Griffin's assistant Harley to be his fake partner.
Harley should not be taking up Reed's offer, but it certainly is tempting when she needs the extra cash and it will keep her off the dangerous side job of honey trapping. But when lines start to blur, can these two keep their feelings in check?
What I love about Elle Nicoll's series is that there is always a nice element of mystery and suspense. In this read, we get a nice subplot that will keep us somewhat guessing. There were some parts of possible "gotcha's" from Nicoll's part where I was almost sure the character was the culprit only to realize I was wrong, so this read definitely kept me guessing.
I really like the chemistry between Reed and Harley, especially in the moments when they both let their guard down and fully participate in the banter. Were their spicy moments spicy? Absolutely! I am a fan of dirty-talking MMC's, but I am all about the dirty-talking FMC's, too.
This book can be read as a standalone, but it does incorporate characters and events from previous books, especially Pleasing Mr. Parker.
