BOOKWORM REVIEW: Force of Nature by Amelia Wilde and Skye Warren

There are only two expectations I have when I pick up a Midnight Dynasty book: 
  1. It is going to be dark. 
  2. It is going to be spicy.
This book met those expectations and more.

After the events from the prequel novella The Crash, we are back to the deserted island where biologist professor Carter Morelli and professional photographer June Porter had just crashed their plane. Morelli -- whose deep, dark secrets include being more than an educator -- is convinced that the crash was intended, and it turns out that he was right.

Unable to suppress the growing need to protect his traveling companion, he pushes them further into the jungle where they are clearly not alone. They eventually run into Theo, but just like Carter, he too has his own set of secrets. The three of them are not sure if it is the forced proximity or instant chemistry, but there is definitely something pulling them together.

I cannot emphasize enough Skye Warren and Amelia Wilde's combined ability to develop an emotionally overwhelming volume of sexual tension through their writing. This book is further proof of that. You quickly forget the element of insta-lust, because each moment is drawn out with a slow burn just waiting to ignite.

And ignite, it does. The chemistry between the main characters is delicious. Carter takes control of almost every situation with unwavering command, and June and Theo are willing puppets to his dominance. The end result is spicy moments that will leave you breathless.

The spicy moments are well balanced with the suspense and action. I found myself holding my breath as Carter fights for survival and protects June from the people who sabotaged his plane. There is still much to be revealed about that plotline, but this book leaves us with a scream-inducing cliffhanger.

Nonetheless, I am already looking forward to the next chapter in this series. While this book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the prequel to understand the growing connection between Carter and June.
