BOOKWORM REVIEW: Blackmail by Amelia Wilde

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
STEAM: πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯.5

Listen, if you read a lot of romance novels, the first half of this book might seem like your run-of-the-mill workplace romance with a good helping of extra spice. Then Amelia Wilde switches gears, and you're in for a delicious story about a man who doesn't think he deserves love and the woman who helps him believe.

Bristol Anderson is a whole lot of trouble. She can barely make ends meet while taking care of her two younger siblings. She also has to deal with the fallout from her father's con deals gone wrong. When she gets a temp job as an assistant for a gruff venture capitalist, she thought her experience can get her through the two weeks at Summit. Then her father got her involved in a scheme that gets her caught by her boss.

Will LeBlanc has better things to do than hold his temporary assistant accountable for her crime. He ought to delegate or just call law enforcement, but he cannot seem to get his mind off Bristol. There is more to Will, however, than just being a successful venture capitalist.

Amelia Wilde creates such layered characters, and Will is no exception. I have a soft spot for broken alphas, and he does it to perfection. His chemistry with Bristol is no question from the beginning, but like I said, things were just okay until we started to get a better inside look into Will's story.

Be sure to check the triggers, and please note that this book is part of an interconnected series and ends in a cliffhanger.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Bristol Anderson will do anything to protect her younger siblings. Even if it means embezzling from the company where she's a temp. No one will find out. And the wealthy owner of the investment firm will never notice.

Except Will LeBlanc doesn't miss a thing.

He could call the police, but he has more interesting plans for her. In the copy room. On the conference table. Under his desk.

The coldhearted venture capitalist will make her pay back every last cent.

MEET AMELIA WILDE

Amelia Wilde wrote her first story when she was six years old, a narrative strongly inspired by The Polar Express. When she was nine she wrote her first novel-length work, all in one paragraph.

Now, Amelia is all about that love. Her romances feature unique, independent heroines and alpha heroes who are strong of heart and body. Readers have described her work as “emotional,” “intense,” “phenomenal,” and “like a child scribbled with a crayon,” which she takes as the highest praise.
