Luca Fritz may be in the middle of his neurosurgical residency, but it does not exactly mean that he is the smartest of the Fritz children..especially when it comes to matters of the heart. In fact, he may have made the worst decision when it came to Raven Fairchild. While recuperating from an injury at his family beach home, he jumps into a fling with Raven, only to find themselves quickly falling in love.
But he has a residency to finish, and with Raven reconsidering her lifelong dream to go to the London Conservatory to be with him, Luca makes the decision for both of them and breaks Raven's heart.
Four years later, Raven is back, but as Luca quickly finds out, her heart is not the same after that incident. Now he must work to get back into her good graces and eventually get through her heart of stone.
Did I face-palmed when I read what Luca was trying to do at the beginning? Yes. But was it worth seeing him grovel through most of this book? Absolutely. 100%. Worth. It.
This second chance read brings on an angsty but hopeful strangers-to-lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers journey. Despite his cockiness and flawed reasoning in earlier chapters, Luca redeems himself in his Take-Me-Back-Raven campaign. I love that Raven is so self-assured even at 18 and even more so four years later. She is feisty and isn't willing to give Luca an inch unless he has worked for it.
I have loved the Abbott-Fritz family from the very beginning. They are a down-to-earth family who loves with all of their heart. The easy banter is nicely balanced with their ability to ground each other.
This book closes another wonderful chapter in this series. I always enjoy getting to another Fritz sibling, and the epilogue has definitely sparked my excitement for Kaplan's story.
