BOOKWORM REVIEW: Mr. Bloomsbury by Louise Bay

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

For a book whose title centers around the male main character, I find it ironic that it is the female main character who ends up stealing the show.

Sofia Rossi is in over her head in London. She is here to find her dad and somehow ask him for the money he has owed her mom and her after he left them without a word and a cent in New York. Her mom desperately needs money for a knee replacement surgery, and because Sofia is unemployed with significant student loan debt, she needs to figure out how to help her mom, stat.

It is a good thing that her roommate/best friend has had it with her job and arrogant boss. Sofia knows that she has thicker skin and can deal with the stoic and no-nonsense Andrew Blake, so she hunts him down and forces her way to become his new assistant.

Andrew Blake is smart, powerful, and rich, and he knows it. A corporate fixer, he has learned and lived by cutting out nonsense from the companies he save and from his own life. He is struggling to get through the door to save Verity, Inc., a magazine founded by his grandmother and eventually inherited by his mother, from being turned into a trashy tabloid.

What I love about these two is that they make sense. While they do make some adjustments to meet each other halfway to their HEA, they don't compromise their quirky personalities. Sofia is smart and self-confident, and this is what attracts Andrew to her. Andrew approaches courtship like he does with everything else: straight to the point with little to no superfluous chatter or actions, and Sofia embraces that.

Their connection at work and after hours is on point. Louise Bay does a great job in painting a picture of a couple moving in perfect tandem in the office and in the sheets. Andrew likes to push the limits, and Sofia willingly and happily goes there because it is also what she likes to do. Their intimate moments are sizzling because of this.

I did feel like the pacing was off in some parts, but none that took me completely away from the story.

Poor Tristan is the last man standing. I cannot wait to see him fall in Mr. Notting Hill

ABOUT THE BOOK

He's cold, rude and undeniably arrogant.

That’s how Andrew Blake's best friends describe him.

Bad luck for me that I’m his new assistant.

Nothing I do is good enough.

The more I try and please him, the more he ignores me.

I’m beginning to wonder if there’s a heart in that tall, hard, gorgeous body of his.

After work I’m complaining about him to my new best friend—the bartender at the pub near the office.

Guess who’s seated behind me and has heard every gripe, grumble and grievance?

By the look in Andrew's eye, I can't tell if I'm going to get fired or kissed.

MEET LOUISE BAY

USA Today bestselling author, Louise Bay writes sexy, contemporary romance novels – the kind she likes to read. Her books include the novels Faithful (not currently on sale as undergoing maintenance!), Hopeful, The Empire State Series, The Nights Collection, The Royals Collection, and The Gentleman Collection (these are series of stand alone books each following different characters). Louise’s most recent novel is Mr. Mayfair which is available now!

Ruined by romantic mini-series of the eighties, Louise loves all things romantic. There’s not enough of it in real life so she disappears into the fictional worlds in books and films.

Louise loves the rain, The West Wing, London, days when she doesn’t have to wear make-up, being on her own, being with friends, elephants and champagne.

She loves to hear from readers so get in touch!
