Screwed Up is Book Two in the Bayside Heroes series. Larsen Belle is a psychiatrist in Bayside General who is in need of some fun. After working so hard to get through school and build her reputation in the hospital, all of her friends are trying to get her to let loose.
Dane Owens seems to be the perfect prescription to her problems. A new security guard assigned to her floor, Dane is delicious sin personified not just in the looks department but also in how he conducts himself. He is confident but gentle; he knows exactly when to push Lars' buttons and when to give her support.
I absolutely love their dynamic. Dane's dirty talk and spicy moves heat the pages just right, and I think it is fantastic that Lars is no innocent. She merely needed her inner goddess to be switched on, and Dane knew exactly how to get the job done. The progression of their relationship from friends-with-benefits to actual friends to lovers is very organic, largely due to Harloe Rae's excellent pacing. I also thought the integration of Lars' skills as a psychologist helping their character arcs is so well done.
There is an element of suspense in the book. It was unexpected but very much welcomed.
While this book can be read as a standalone, it does a great job aligning the events in the previous book if you're reading the series.
