BOOKWORM REVIEW: Love, Artifacts, and You by Sarah Ready

I thought I was prepared. After reading Sarah Ready's previous book in this series, Romance by the Book, I set my expectations to be inappropriately invested with Ready's characters and go through a wild emotional roller coaster.

I just did not expect for that ride to start at 100 MPH in Chapter 1.

Love, Artifacts, and You may be part of the Soul Mates in Romeo series, but it starts in an expedition gone wrong. Teens Emma and Andrew fell in love while looking for elusive treasures, but during an excavation, they were hijacked, leaving Andrew to assume that Emma had betrayed him and Emma to think that Andrew was dead.

Years later, Andrew wants revenge on the Castletons, especially Emma, who has taken over her family's company. Desperate to get her family business back on track, Emma heads to Romeo, NY to find a mythical treasure buried somewhere in this Upstate New York town.

What she did not anticipate is the town's equally notorious soulmate seer, who predicts that seeking the treasure will also lead her to the love of her life. 

Emma and Andrew are such precious characters. Sarah Ready does a remarkable job in building empathy for their loneliness and pain and drawing admiration for their resilience and strength. I also love that there was a great balance among humor, drama, action, and romance; nothing really seemed out of place. 

I also enjoyed the diversity in intimate scenes and how they were appropriate for the different points in the story. Even though this felt like a quick read, the story never felt rushed and was very precise.
