BOOKWORM REVIEW: Romance by the Book by Sarah Ready
I am not going to lie - this book drove me crazy at the beginning. Jessie finally got her soul mate prediction from the town psychic, and despite the fact that her "soul mate" Gavin is engaged, she is determined to get his attention...using romantic clichés.
I wanted to strangle her in the first few chapters of the book.
Thank goodness for Will -- Gavin's twin -- a broody introvert who is determined to stop Jessie from making a fool of herself. While he has her convinced that he's doing this to protect his brother's engagement and a business deal tied to that engagement, Will's motives are not purely selfless.
I am really glad I stuck around, because the second half of the book was AMAZING. All of the things that drove me crazy in the first half suddenly made sense. I especially love the fact that despite herself, Jessie woke up from her Gavin-induced stupor and finally saw Will. When she did, the temperature suddenly went from "you need a cardigan" cool to "I'm stripping down and taking an ice bath" hot.
I especially love their excursions as Jessie tries to convince Will that the soul mate predictions are legitimate by introducing him to different people around town. The tension between them through each stop grew, and you're just counting down to when it would implode.
As you discover why Jessie and Will are the way they are, you just want to hug them both and hope for their happily ever after.
Romance by the Book is the third in the Soulmates by Romeo series, but the book can stand on its own.
