BOOKWORM REVIEW: Reckless Heart by Brighton Walsh

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
SPICE: πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯.5

This was probably the hottest installment in this series.

Aiden McKenzie is not alright. He is making mistakes left and right while managing his family's resort, and his family -- especially his sister -- has had enough. When he finds refuge at the local bar, he meets Avery, a beautiful and sassy redhead who entices him to a one-night stand. He had expected that her escape from the awkward morning-after is the end of his chapter with her.

Fate had different plans, and Avery turned out to be his sister's best friend who ended up needing an extended stay in Starlight Cove. The bonus? He is now her boss at the resort.

Apparently, the one-night stand did little to quell the attraction they had for each other. There is another complication to their relationship: Aiden has disclosed to Avery a secret that even his family was not aware of, and there is nothing Avery detests more than secrets from the ones you love.

I enjoyed this read. I love the chemistry between Aiden and Avery. Their meet-cute was quite engaging, and I love their flirtatious interactions. The spice is probably the best of the series. Aiden is just pure hotness, and his dirty talk is sublime.

As hot as it is, it is not my favorite of the series. While their relationship is hot, hot, hot, its arc was just okay. It is centered around Aiden's secret and Avery's history against secrets, and it did not feel as organic for me. Brady's story still holds the title as my favorite (sorry Aiden!).

I have loved knowing the McKenzies better. The family is probably one of my favorite fictional ones. They are incredibly charming and can easily make you fall in love with each of them. I cannot wait for Addison's story; that preview holds so much promise!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Turns out the gorgeous woman I had a one-night stand with is not only my sister’s best friend but also my new employee.

Worse? I shared a whole lot more with Avery than one mind-blowing night.

I told her my deepest, darkest secret.

Despite my constant worry that she’ll let the truth slip to my family, I can’t stay away from her. And when we’re tossed together for an out-of-town trip and forced to share a room with only one bed, the chemistry between us finally explodes...again.

I have no problem making her see stars—or breaking the bed. The trouble is, the longer our secret relationship goes on, the more I want to keep her.

But she’s eight years my junior, the sunshine to my grump, and I know her free spirit wants more than the small town of Starlight Cove can offer.

I have no doubt no one will ever give her more pleasure than I will, but I refuse to hold her back. Even if that means letting her go when her three-month contract is up.

MEET BRIGHTON WALSH

Award-winning USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brighton Walsh spent a decade as a professional photographer before taking her storytelling in a different direction and reconnecting with her first love—writing. She likes her books how she likes her tea—steamy and satisfying—and adores strong-willed heroines and the protective heroes who fall head over heels for them. Brighton lives in the Midwest with her real life hero of a husband, her two kids—both taller than her—and her dog who thinks she’s a queen. Her boy-filled house is the setting for dirty socks galore, frequent dance parties (okay, so it's mostly her, by herself, while her children look on in horror), and more laughter than she thought possible.
