After years of avoiding each other, Lance cannot seem to avoid his former flame Kenzie. Now he's inadvertently sharing an awkward meal with her, and in a moment of weakness, he suggests that she has her wedding at Lake Starlight. Her wedding to someone else. Her wedding to HIS RIVAL.

Since she is a pariah in their hometown for breaking his heart, he is being punished for bringing her back into town by planning this wedding with her. The close proximity is bringing up things that both have long suppressed; will this be the chance for them to clear the air about what happened in college?

Patience is going to be the key to reading this book. You certainly will want to shake the main characters and a few townsfolk along the way. I have to admit that I was a bit annoyed about how Kenzie was mistreated by Lance, his family, and his friends when I felt like she was being set up by Easton. Easton was also culpable for his role in that misunderstanding, but because he was family, he wasn't put through the wringer. Despite my initial annoyance with Lance, his attention to detail, especially when it comes to Kenzie, is his redemption. I can relate to the insecurities of being an introverted family member, and I love how that is addressed for him.

This is a sloooow burn, but the wait was certainly worth it. The tension between Kenzie and Lance is delicious. I also love that they are opposites who just fit well together. I wish there was more spice in this read because they were incredibly adorable when they finally got their shitakes together.

I love the representation in this read. Piper and Rayne integrated subtle but meaningful details about Kenzie's culture that brought a warm joy to my Filipino heart.

This can be read as a standalone. There is a lot of involvement from characters in previous reads, so you might as well have the full Lake Starlight experience.
