BOOKWORM REVIEW: Musical Games by Evie Alexander

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
SPICE: πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

I think I've said it before but it does bear repeating: I have loved every visit to Kinloch. Evie Alexander has created a fabulous book universe that is a guaranteed laugh and will make you fall in love.

Sam has run away to Kinloch, hoping that a run-in with Hollywood star Brad Bauer would give the soap opera starlet the big break she needs. In her quest, she meets Jamie, a Scottish electrician who lives with his mom.

Jamie is quite comfortable with the quiet Kinloch living..until Sam entered the scene and has turned his life upside down. Now that she has committed them to writing the soundtrack to Braveheart 2, they are forced to spend more time together. And with proximity comes affection (at least in Romancelandia), and they are no exception.

But these two want different things in life. Can they reconcile that or part ways when their movie commitments are done?

I love this book. The chemistry, the humor. The arc between these two is chaotic but hilarious -- which is on par with the rest of the Kinloch stories. Be warned: this one really pushes the miscommunication trope. I usually get a little wary about a virgin MMC, but Jamie's character development is done so well. He has a charisma that I found so endearing and had me rooting for him.

This is the last of the series. The book can be read as a standalone, but we get a chance to say goodbye to some of our favorite characters from previous books. Boy, was it hard to say farewell to all of them.

** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book. Thank you to Evie Alexander for providing an ARC. **

ABOUT THE BOOK

Bubbly actress Sam is on the brink of the bigtime. All she needs is one lucky break. But when she drops everything for the chance to meet Hollywood’s biggest star, she blows it by blurting out a lie. Now, she’s got ten days to write an album with a man who wants nothing to do with her.

Jamie’s a shy electrician from the Scottish Highlands and life is just the way he wants it: uneventful, predictable, private. He may have the voice of an angel and the body of a god, but he’s never been kissed and fame is the last thing on his mind. When beautiful and vivacious Sam gatecrashes his life, she turns his world upside down.

As their songs come together, so do they. But chasing the limelight has never been part of Jamie’s plan, and he won’t be a means to an end. Can Sam get her dream back on track, or has she had her eye on the wrong prize all along?

Musical Games is a steamy, slow-burn, grumpy/sunshine, laugh-out-loud, Scottish small town, dual POV romantic comedy featuring an extremely hot virgin hero, and a lovable heroine with a runaway mouth and a huge heart. There’s no cheating, no cliff-hanger, and Musical Games has a guaranteed happy ever after (HEA).
