BOOKWORM REVIEW: The Ex I'd Love to Hate by Nadia Lee

This book had all of the makings of the tropes that I love:

✅ Rich kid who resents the fakeness that comes with his family's wealth and fame
✅ Opposites attract
✅ Second chance romance

Grant is the rich kid who is over the people who fawn over him because of his parents' wealth. When a sassy redhead comes to his polo match to yell at him about missing class and flaking out on a group project, his attention is immediately drawn to said redhead..whose name is Aspen.

Aspen is not a fan of people who makes things more difficult for her. Life is hard enough, and she does not need the likes of Grant to keep her from getting good grades in her classes. Somehow, after the yelling debacle, he seems to be at every place where she is. After caving into his wooing, something happens that drives them apart.

Fast forward a few years later, she desperately needs work, and the only job she can get is working for..Grant.

I wanted to love this book so bad, and that slow start just killed the vibe for me. It does pick up and get better when Grant and Aspen are older, which is why this read has four stars. The beginning, however, was very ho-hum and added little to the story.

If you push through it, however, the latter years are so worth the pain. The pacing gets so much better, and I love the adversarial banter between the two main characters. I love Grant's character development, though there have been moments when I wanted to shake him.

Grant and Aspen's chemistry is on point, even at the beginning. It really shines in the second act.

This is the third book in the Lasker Brothers series, but it can be read as a standalone. As a newbie to this book universe, I never felt lost with the different characters.
