I love a solid strong FMC, and Josephine Watts fits that bill.

A forensic pathologist, she now has to work with Homicide Detective Colten Mosley, who also happens to be the first love who shattered her heart. She thought that they have moved on, but have they really?

If I were to describe this book in three words, it would be angst, suspense, and shocking. It is part of a duet, so I am trying to carefully manage the line of not spoiling the story. Colten and Josie have a lot of emotional history that they've tried to sweep under the rug. Seventeen years later, those emotional demons are coming back with their close proximity in the midst of a mystery.

Yeah, it is a lot.

But Jewel E. Ann guides you nicely through this roller coaster with great pacing, entertaining banter, and vivid details.

Colten is a fantastic male lead that embraces the alpharoll job in this read. He is tough but kind, dominant but considerate. Josie stole the show for me, however. She is a tough cookie who refused to dwell on the past despite her broken heart.

Like I have mentioned, this is a duet, so you know it will end in a cliffhanger. It is also a third book in the series, but as someone who jumped right into this book, the duet can work as a standalone.
