BOOKWORM REVIEW: Marked by Mallory Hart

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
STEAM: πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

I knew this was going to be good based on the first page alone.

Mallory Hart dedicated this book to those of us who lost their mind at the first book's cliffhanger, and I appreciate the cheeky love note.

Hit's sequel begins some time after the last book ended. Pina Delarosa is now under Lucien Rossi's control, and she is trying to keep her sanity until -- hopefully -- her husband Darragh gets her secret message and comes to her rescue. Until then, she cycles through Rossi's mental games, playing to his ego to keep herself safe..and alive.

Darragh is turning every rock in New York trying to find his wife, including making an alliance with Pina's brother Andrea. Will he get to her in time before Lucien Rossi inflicts permanent damage?

If you've read Hit, you know that Pina is no damsel in distress. She takes matters into her own hands, fighting for what she wants and what she feels like she's owed. She doesn't let powerful men on both sides push her around, and she uses her quick wit and resilience to assert her independence. I love that even her affection for Darragh and her loyalty to her brother take nothing away from her strength. Mallory Hart does a phenomenal job in striking a balance in establishing Pina's relationships without taking away from her strong identity.

Oh, Darragh. If you weren't so stubborn, I would almost feel bad for you. For someone who resisted his feelings for Pina so adamantly, he struggles with navigating around his new and precocious leadership over the Irish mafia because he is distracted by Pina and his draw toward her. But Pina is not quick to let him skate away without any consequences to his stubbornness -- good for her -- and I love how he pays his dues.

This book is witty, charming, and unapologetic with its twists and turns. The well-set pace keeps you engaged, and the spicy scenes will leave you feeling hot and thirsty.

I am almost sad to see Darragh and Pina's story end, but I know that more will be coming soon from this world. This is the last book in the duet, so you will need to read Hit first, but the journey is so worth it.

** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book. Thank you to Mallory Hart for providing an ARC. **

ABOUT THE BOOK

Darragh

Once, I only cared about a few things: family, honor and doing my job for the mob.

Then, she came into my life and nothing was the same.

My wife took over my world and completely changed the game.

But now she’s in the hands of the enemy, and I’ll burn down the entire city if that’s what it takes to get her back.

Lucien Rocci should enjoy his final days while they last, because I’ve marked him for death.

______

Once upon a time, all Giuseppina Delarosa cared about was escaping her suffocating past. Then Darragh entered her world and offered the unlikeliest of escapes. But in the dark world of the mafia love doesn’t come easy, and now she’s playing a dangerous game to keep Darragh alive. Staying one step ahead of her captor is a necessity to save everyone she loves, but it will take more than Giuseppina’s ever sacrificed to win this power game with Lucien Rocci.

Darragh O’Callaghan never cared for anyone until Giuseppina changed his entire life. As the new Kingpin of the Irish mafia, the stakes are higher than ever before. In a world where tradition and honor rule them all, he’s faced with new consequences as he searches for the woman he loves. As war erupts around the city and new alliances are formed, Darragh will have to play a dirty and bloody game to keep his family alive.

Can they overcome the dangers from every corner of NYC, or will the life finally catch up destroy them both?

Marked is the second and final book in the Mafia Born Duet. It is a direct sequel to Hit and cannot be read as a standalone.
