BOOKWORM REVIEW: Boy of Fire and Ash by Sara Cate

Thomas has had enough of his newsroom job. His editor-in-chief constantly turns down Thomas' story pitches despite his extensive journalistic experience. After he has quit, his best friend Everly (from Burn for Me) helped get him a teaching job at the college she works at.

Thomas should not have teased Everly so much about her relationship with student and boyfriend Cullen, because it looks like Thomas is heading for the same fate. After his car breaks down, a hot younger man comes to give him a tow to the shop. The attraction to Pax is definitely immediate, and the spice in this novella is as well. Too bad, Pax shows up to Thomas' writing class the next day.  Oops.

The connection between Thomas and Pax is hotter than Thomas' blown radiator from the get-go. But Pax hides more than his scarred past; he keeps his sexuality a tight secret as well. What I love about Thomas is that he respects Pax's boundaries about being closeted and that he asserts his own boundaries when Pax disrespects him. While Thomas is just wholesome, Pax is his dirty, cunning counterpart. He takes what he wants, but we find that there is a gentle, protective side to him.

Sara Cate makes every page in this short read count as Thomas and Pax navigate an emotional tug-of-war peppered with spicy moments that will leave you thirsty AF.
