BOOKWORM REVIEW: The Four Horsewomen of the Apocalypse by GH Brookhorn
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
STEAM: π₯π₯π₯
I had so much fun reading G.H. Brookhorn's debut novel. It introduces us to the Four Horsewomen sent by the Goddess on separate missions to retrieve a human critical to their subsequent mission. The book is divided into four novellas as we follow each Horsewoman on their individual mission.
I love the Horsewomen's relatable quirks and how they engage with the man they were tasked to retrieve. Who would have thought that War is a true believer of Edna Mode's philosophy on capes? That Death is a Twihard AND Team Jacob? That Pestilence likes to troll message boards about Disney Princesses? Or that Famine cannot resist a good adult shop?
Each Horsewoman's story is a novella that comes together at the end. Because each story is a quick read, there is an element of instalove, but G.H. Brookhorn maintains a great and entertaining pace.
It does end on a cliffhanger, but even though I am not a big fan of those, the stories were wrapped up well enough and I felt like the cliffhanger is more a setup for the next book.
ABOUT THE BOOK
When the Horsewomen are sent by the Goddess to locate four human males, they saddle up, assuming they're readying for the long-awaited Apocalypse. Angry with humanity's lies, greed and selfishness, they are raring to go.
When they each find their target, however, they discover there's a lot more to the men - and humanity - than they expected.
Will they save the world or doom it?
