BOOKWORM REVIEW: My Demon Hunter by Aurora Ascher

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you love amazing world-building, spellbinding action, and wicked hot romance, I cannot recommend this series more.

Book Two brings us Mist's story. The Hunter is tired. He is tired of being enslaved to bring rogue demons back to his mistress Paimon and having to witness her cruelty toward the captured demons. His wariness of hunting down demons has grown significantly from witnessing what humans consider love and affection between powerful demons like Eligos and Asmodeus and mortals. Now he wants what they have.

After bunking down with three of the four demons he was supposed to bring back to Hell and going through "How to Deal with Humans" 101 with Eva for a couple of months, he takes his training for a spin by running down to the corner store to get some ice cream for Eva. His errand has him colliding paths with Lily, an introvert who is not quite comfortable in her own skin. The connection is immediate, and they eventually start a courtship.

Too bad there are circumstances *cough*Paimon*cough* that are getting in the way of their happily ever after.

I don't know where to begin in describing how phenomenal this book has been. I knew the moment I started I was not going to be able to put it down. Aurora Ascher establishes such an engaging pace that makes you want to keep turning the pages until the very end.

Mist has always been adorable. His innocence about human nature and how he communicates this are entertaining, and I love that despite years under captivity -- being beholden to someone against his will -- he still instinctively puts others before him.

And Lily! She is one of the most relatable female characters, and I adore her for it. She may be introverted and shy but she asserts herself even in tough situations. She is courageous and can be sassy.

The usual crew from Book One are still as lovable as ever. Their easy banter and quirky personalities play well into Book Two. We also get new characters; some are more lovable than others. I am looking at you, Iris.

This book can also work as a standalone, but you don't want to miss the full effect of Aurora's phenomenal world. I certainly would not want to miss any future stories in this wonderful universe she has created.

** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book. Thank you to Aurora Ascher for providing an ARC. **

ABOUT THE BOOK

The hunter shall become the hunted…

Enslaved to an evil demon queen, Mishetsumephtai has only ever served one purpose. He is the Hunter, the one who drags the guilty back to Hell.

But tasting freedom has changed him, and for the first time, Mist questions his duty. The human female he meets, who smiles at him with no idea what a monster he is, draws him in, and he’ll do anything to possess her.

But his reprieve was always temporary, and before long, his cruel mistress demands he return to Hell. If he disobeys, he will pay the price with pain or even death. Yet he can’t relinquish the woman whose scent calls to him like nothing he’s hunted before.

…And the timid shall become the fierce.

Since the death of her parents, Lily Donovan has tried to forget what she is. But denial is not an option when everything she’s been running from turns up on her doorstep. Chaos comes in the form of a man with unusual tattoos and beguiling amber eyes…
A man who may not be a man at all.

Suddenly, Lily’s weaknesses become her greatest strengths, and she must learn to embrace them if she’s to save herself and her Hunter.

Even if she shouldn’t trust him. Even if he’s supposed to be her enemy.

---

My Demon Hunter is a sizzling-hot paranormal romance about loving the darkest parts of ourselves. It features a curvy heroine and a demon hero with non-human attributes, including a dramatic size difference and a very talented tail. There’s blood, sex, violence, and, as always, a lot of profanity. You’ve been warned.

The Hell Bent series books can be read as standalones and will always end with an HEA, but it is recommended to start from the beginning for maximum enjoyment.
