BOOKWORM REVIEW: The Temptation by Nikki Sloane

Reading this book was like watching the series finale of my favorite show. A mix of excitement and sadness, especially since I have quite become attached to the Hales of Cape Hill.
The Temptation tells Vance Hale's story. After living most of his life under his father's thumb, he struggles with the reformed and more caring Macalister. He has also become a person of interest after Jillian Lambert disappeared.
Emery wants to get close to Vance for reasons she wants to keep close to her chest. They eventually agree that faking a relationship could get both of them what they want, but would they be able to keep up the pretenses when sexual tension, deep attraction, and *one hotel bed* keep pushing them together?
Like the other books in this series, this one brings suspense, mystery, and lots of spice. I love that Vance is more carefree than but still as calculating as Macalister or Royce. He also gets his dirty talking from Dad, and even though he makes a bet to stay celibate for 90 days, that doesn't stop him or this book from being incredibly hot.
Nikki Sloane creates such strong AND smart female leads, and Emery is no different. She is talented at her craft, and if Macalister knew from the get-go as to how cunning and focused she is, he would have welcomed her with open arms.
While I enjoyed the mystery and action in this book, it is not as dark and heavy as its predecessors. It seems out-of-character at first, but as we get to know Vance, the lighter tone made more sense. I enjoyed the mentions of other characters from previous books. Nikki Sloane does a fantastic job of integrating context, but I would recommend reading the entire series to get the full Hale effect.
