BOOKWORM REVIEW: The Nanny and the Nerd by Krista Sandor
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I can appreciate quirky, and you get them in spades in the first book of the Nanny Love Match series.
Penelope is a struggling writer who is trying to slump through the biggest writer's block and has just been fired from her job. A mysterious woman recruits her to be a nanny for one of the woman's clients, and Penny reluctantly agrees.
It turns out Madelyn's client is video gaming CEO Rowen Gale. He's a big curmudgeon with very little social skills, and he has a six-year-old niece to raise while overseeing a big video game release. Penny could not have come at a better time.
As someone who is socially awkward, I can relate to Penny and Rowen's lack of social grace, though there were times when I am glad I am not that cringey (or so I would like to think). There are a handful of "insert foot into mouth" moments that made me laugh when their mouths get ahead of their brains.
The supporting cast in this book is great! Little Phoebe's sass and eccentric style just make me want to tap my foot four times on the floor (four taps for a-do-ra-ble). I liked that despite their very different personalities, Penny's girlfriends have each other's backs, and I cannot wait to read each of their stories. We got a little snippet of their future nanny clients, and while we got more of Mitch -- who is the MMC for the next book, we really did not get as much insight into the other guys.
There was no slow burn to their attraction; we immediately find out their insta-lust for each other, thanks to the dual POV. I definitely appreciate the insight to their thinking, but there were a couple of times where I wish their actions showed what they were thinking instead of reading about it, especially with Rowen.
Yet, even though they are immediately attracted to each other, the build-up to their more intimate moments is so well done. Those scenes are steamy π, and Rowen proves that nerds can be dirty, dirty, dirty in bed.
If you are into rom-coms, especially with a healthy dose of comedy, The Nanny and The Nerd is a good book to pick up.
