BOOKWORM REVIEW: Be Still My Heart by Emily McIntire and Sav R. Miller

As someone who has read suspense thrillers, I have always been left wanting on how they tackle romantic relationships and spicy scenes.
On the other hand, most romantic suspense books I've encountered lacked a thriller element. Most are usually about politics -- be it actual politics or social -- and how the main characters navigate around it.
Until now.
Be Still My Heart strikes the perfect balance of suspense, mystery, action, and most importantly hot, spicy romance.
Sloane, a Portland PD detective, has been sent to Skelm Island to investigate a series of murders. There she meets broody, ex-Navy SEAL Lincoln Porter, who always seems to be at wrong place at the wrong time when it comes to these corpses. Meanwhile, Lincoln is itching to clear his name so he can get his family business out of the red.
But fate -- and Skelm Island's serial killer -- have different plans for these two.
I love these two main characters. Sloane is feisty, resilient, and smart. Her quick wit easily proves how she has been able to succeed in a male-dominated career, and I admire her need to serve justice. Lincoln is her perfect grumpy to her sunshine, but while their demeanor sit on the opposite sides of each other, he is her equal when it comes to intelligence and determination.
Their chemistry is 🔥. The intimate scenes are incredibly spicy, thanks to Lincoln's dirty talk. McIntire and Miller do a fantastic job of integrating these moments at the right time without feeling gratuitous and losing the pace of the thriller/mystery.
If you ever wished Twin Peaks or your favorite mystery show had a better romance, Be Still My Heart will be a great read.
