What do you do if a turning point in your life did not turn out to be the way you had thought it to be?

In The Truth about Secrets by L.P. Dover, we find out what Clara and Zac would do when their break-up from twelve years ago did not play out the way they had previously believed.

Back then, Clara was in Paris with her best friend when another friend back in Wyoming sent her a picture of Zac cuddling up to another woman.  Heartbroken, she decided to prolong her stay in France and eventually became a successful publicist in San Francisco.

Back to present day. Clara has to return home for a family emergency. Despite the passing of time, she has not fully recovered from the heartache over Zac from twelve years ago, and she is determined to avoid him at all costs.  Too bad, Zac won her at a charity auction and they are stuck for a week.

Will this be an opportunity for them to talk about what happened twelve years ago, or will they continue in resenting each other?

I really enjoyed this book.  The story does a great job of communicating how much Clara and Zac were childhood soulmates and how deep their emotions were for each other.  Despite a traumatic breakup and long distance, their initial interaction was so filled with passion clouded by anger and heartbreak that it flowed nicely into sexual tension.

The reveal of what really happened twelve years ago made for a great climax.  I just wished that closing out certain subplots like Adrian and Trina did not feel so abrupt.  Those did not take away from how good this book is.
