This was a fantastic and fun Beauty and the Beast retelling.

Bonnie Hamelin's first encounter with her favorite author Jack Bestia went horribly wrong and ended with her bawling and running away.

Fast forward to a couple of years.  Bonnie now works for the book section of the Daily Report, and she is being sent to do a rare interview with Jack, who has since became a grumpy recluse while trying to finish the last book in his series.  A misunderstanding occurs, forcing Bonnie to stay with Jack for a longer term.

Jack and Bonnie were amazing characters.  The way Tru Taylor describes Jack's grumpy but gentle mannerisms reminded me so much of the Beast in the Disney movie.  His growling and brooding was a great contrast to Bonnie's sunny and personable disposition.  I also loved Bonnie's sass; it made from great witty and tension-filled banter between her and Jack.

How the tension between Bonnie and Jack progressed in this book was really well-paced.  It was great to see them become friends first before becoming lovers. I really like how their bond grew from a mutual love of books and writing.

I also thought the little Easter eggs for Beauty and the Beast fans were incredibly adorable.

This was a great read, and I cannot wait for Hunter's story.

Bookworm and the Beast is now available.
